ABOUT

The Water Meter Maintenance Technician Certificate course is an introductory workforce training designed to prepare participants for entry-level roles supporting water utility meter operations. Participants may enroll in Level I only or both Level I and Level II for a more comprehensive experience.

The course provides foundational knowledge and hands-on exposure to water meters, meter reading technologies, safety practices, documentation, and customer interaction.

This course is ideal for…

  • Individuals interested in starting a career in entry-level field positions such as being a meter reader or meter technician
  • Entry-level utility employees seeking foundational meter knowledge and field readiness skills
  • Current water sector employees seeking formal training to strengthen foundational meter knowledge and support career advancement

COURSE SCHEDULE

The full course includes four days of instruction plus an assessment.

Participants may register for:

  • Level I only (2 days)
  • Level I + Level II (4 days total)

Participants are expected to attend all sessions for their selected level(s), arrive on time, and stay for the full duration of each session.

Level I: Field Readiness – Meter Installation, Maintenance & Troubleshooting (2 days)

  • Focus: Physical meters, field safety, installation, repair, and on-site problem solving
  • Audience: New meter technicians, field staff, installers, maintenance crews
  • Outcome: Participants are field-ready to safely install, maintain, and troubleshoot meters

Level II: Meter Data and Systems – AMI/AMR, Reading, and Billing Integration (2 days)

  • Focus: Data flow, meter reading technologies, system verification, and revenue connection
  • Audience: Meter technicians advancing into reading, AMI support, data verification, or cross-functional roles
  • Outcome: Participants understand how meter data moves from the field to billing and decision-making systems

REGISTRATION

Registration fees are covered by TWT through a grant. To register, follow the steps below:

  2. Submit the inquiry form (found on the Meters page), and specify whether you are taking Level I or Level I & II
  3. Email communication and potential facility tour with TWT Staff, and complete registration form
  4. Attend classes and start your career in water!
