Demo Day Update

We have made the difficult decision to postpone Demo Day, but hope you will be as excited as we are for April 22, 2022.  As the water industry celebrates Earth Day, we will be celebrating the opening of The Water Tower campus and hosting our first Demo Day! We invite you to participate as an attendee, speaker, or exhibitor as we take this opportunity to showcase our early partners, demonstrations, and introduce you to our world-class facilities. Second Annual Watering Hole Golf Tournament

Thank you to all of our amazing sponsors, golfers, and volunteers for making this year's Watering Hole Golf Tournament a success! Proceeds from the tournament go directly to TWT programming in applied research, technology innovation, workforce development, and community engagement. We look forward to hosting the third annual tournament in October 2022. See you on the course!

If your 4 or 5 iron is feeling cold, we found two club covers by TaylorMade left behind at the tournament. If they are yours, please contact info@theh2otower.org to claim them!

Ecosystem Collaborator Updates

We are excited to announce the first tenant of TWT, Carollo Engineers. In addition, Wade Trim joins as TWT's very first Sustaining Partner.

We'd like to extend a warm welcome to our newest Innovation Partners, McWane and AECOM.

TWT Topical Collection for Discover Water Journal

TWT is leading a topical collection for a new open access Springer journal, Discover Water. The proposed collection, Sustainable Water Resource Management in an Era of Unprecedented Challenges, aligns with TWT’s interest as a facilitator of research collaboration for the watershed for Lake Lanier, the primary water source for Atlanta Metro Area that attracts around 8 million recreational users annually. The challenges experienced within the Lanier watershed are illustrative of those encountered globally and crucial that lessons be shared.  We invite submissions that describe how novel technical approaches, policy, governance, or stakeholder engagement are better balancing competing needs and addressing emerging challenges. The submission deadline is March 17, learn more and apply here.

Applied Research

We continue to receive valuable feedback on the Lake Lanier Watershed 5 Year Plan, which includes 32 stakeholder-driven applied research projects on topics critical to the health and future of the watershed such as nutrient management, water quality monitoring, stormwater management, and more. We will kickoff the first effort under the plan in Q4 2021. To review and submit feedback on the plan, visit the research page on our website.

Technology Innovation

As part of the TWT technology innovation program, Black & Veatch is currently developing a monitoring platform dashboard for the F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center in Buford. The dashboard will track plant performance from a holistic approach using both equipment data and lab results. This approach shows a complete snapshot of the facility to help operators and managers make better informed decisions.

Workforce Development

Our Work Study Program officially kicked off in August. The program provides high school students with the opportunity to learn about careers in the water industry and daily operations of a water reclamation facility through hands on, classroom, and online learning. Once the program is completed, trainees will have the skills and experience needed to sit for their certification exams.

Community Engagement

TWT is partnering with Paul Duke STEM High School in Gwinnett for their Senior Experience and Exhibition (SEE) program. We are challenging students to settle an important debate: which is better, tap water vs. bottled water? The students will conduct research over the next semester and the program will culminate in an exhibition to showcase their work.

Construction Update

Image

Construction of Phase 1, which includes the Water Innovation Center, Demonstration Area, and Field Training Center is estimated to be completed in Q1 2022. TWT staff are actively recruiting water-related businesses to be part of The Water Tower ecosystem. Opportunities include becoming a tenant, co-working membership, leasing demonstration and laboratory space, hosting company events, participating as an Innovation Partner, and more.
